I know what you're thinking...it's Christmas time, aren't we supposed to be spending time with our family and friends as much as we can right now, not spending time alone? Of course. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. However, in order to be our best selves, no matter what the season, we also need to incorporate some solitude.
In fact, I would argue that this time of year it’s more important than ever. Time alone gives you a chance to breathe, gain perspective, recharge. When you do, you end up actually being able to give MORE.
If this is a new concept for you, especially during the holidays, I encourage you to start small. Carve out just 10 minutes a day for yourself. Be it in your bedroom, your bathroom, outside in nature or even in your closet with the door shut! (That's for the moms and dads with littles.) You'll feel the benefits, I promise. If you can gradually build up to 60 minutes per day, even if it's broken into multiple chunks, you're golden.
You’ve heard it all before, but it’s worth repeating…you cannot give from an empty cup. The most important relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself. Honor yourself this holiday season and spend a little time listening to the only voice that really matters…your own.
